“Tu donnes, tu reçois.” — That’s what motivated Baptiste, a 28-year-old communication manager, to join his first ibis RockCorps experience. Already an active citizen with a passion for community involvement, Baptiste discovered ibis RockCorps through social media and was curious to explore how volunteering could align with culture and entertainment.
His story highlights how a simple yet powerful initiative can create lasting impact for individuals, non-profits and companies.
1. Tell us a bit about your background and how you got involved:
I’m 28 years old and currently work as a communication manager. Outside of work, I’ve been involved with volunteering, specifically with "Restos du Cœur" where I help collect donations to redistribute to those in need. I had never heard of RockCorps before, but my girlfriend saw it on social media and told me about it. The project seemed very cool, especially with the large number of people involved. The slogan "Tu donnes, tu reçois" (You give, you receive) really appealed.
2. How did you find the experience of volunteering?
I was motivated by the idea of making a positive impact on the world around me. I have strong beliefs about the environment, and I get a lot from helping out in the community. It was rewarding to have a tangible impact and see the results of our efforts, such as during our project for the City Hall of Paris, where we focused on collecting trash and cigarette butts. I felt my contribution was useful and enjoyed looking back at all the photos and videos of the concert afterwards, chatting with friends about the experience.
3. And what about the concert?
The concert wasn’t my main motivation for volunteering, but it was a nice bonus. The most impactful part was the supportive messages from the artists, especially Macklemore, whose speech really resonated with me. His engagement with the audience was memorable, and I felt a strong sense of reward, knowing that I had accomplished something good before enjoying the concert.
4. What do you think about brands like ibis getting involved with community activities?
I’m familiar with the ibis hotel chain, though I’m not sure if I’ve stayed there before as I usually use Airbnb. I was very surprised by initiatives like this from ibis, and I’m curious to see if it’s a long-term commitment or just a marketing move. This experience has definitely changed my perception of ibis—I now see them from a different perspective, not just as a capitalist company focused on revenue.
5. Do you see yourself volunteering more in the future? What was the lasting impression?
Absolutely. The enthusiasm behind the projects was evident, and there was a clear willingness among people to engage. Seeing all the people who worked on the projects come together at the concert was a powerful experience—it really tied the overall experience together. I’d definitely like to participate again next year if possible. It’s an incredible concept and an amazing experience.

6. How has your view of ibis evolved through this experience?
My understanding of ibis has changed a lot. I now associate values like solidarity and community engagement with the brand. This experience has set ibis apart from other hotel chains in my mind, and my perception of the company has changed. I think ibis aligns well with the idea of volunteering and encouraging civic engagement.
