Chadrak’s Journey: Volunteering, Community, and Connection Through RockCorps

aling7

"Four hours well spent." That’s how Chadrak, a 26-year-old communication manager, describes his experience with RockCorps. Returning after first participating in 2011, he brought his brother along to transform a charity space for children from India.

For Chadrak, the real reward wasn’t just the concert but the shared joy of giving back, deepening his connection to brands like ibis that champion purpose and community impact.

Tell us a bit about your background and how you got involved:

My involvement with RockCorps actually began back in 2011 when it was Orange RockCorps. I participated for four seasons, and each one offered a different kind of project, but all with the aim of making a positive impact. When I saw that RockCorps had returned this year with ibis, I decided to take part again and encouraged my brother to get involved too.

How did you find the experience of volunteering?

This time, our project was about renovating a charity building that supports children from India. It was a great way to connect with new people, as we spent our time painting walls and creating murals to make the space more welcoming.

For me, it’s not just about the work itself; it’s about the whole experience of giving back. We've all got time to give, so why not spend it doing something good? Volunteering with RockCorps has always been about more than just the tasks at hand—it's about the sense of community and shared purpose that comes with it.

And what about the concert?

The concert wasn’t just an event—it felt like a big celebration of everything we’d accomplished together. While the artists were amazing, what really stood out was the shared sense of pride among all of us volunteers. We weren’t just there to watch a show; we were celebrating the work we put in. It was a powerful reminder of the importance of community and teamwork.

What do you think about brands like ibis getting involved with community activities?

I have a personal connection to ibis—my mum worked as a housekeeper at one of their hotels, and I also interned at ibis Levallois. My experiences with ibis have been generally positive, with particularly great memories, like staying at an ibis in Amsterdam. I think their partnership with RockCorps really shows that they take social causes and sustainability seriously. It seems like more than just a PR strategy; it’s about genuinely raising awareness, involving young people, and contributing to society in a tangible way. When a brand is truly engaged with social issues, it can build real loyalty and respect from both employees and customers alike.

Do you see yourself volunteering more in the future? What was the lasting impression?

I don’t get to volunteer as often as I’d like because of work, but I really love it when I can. This time around, my main goal was to introduce my brother to volunteering, and I’m glad I made it happen. The whole experience is something I’d highly recommend—it’s a chance to connect with people, learn more about yourself, and realise how even the smallest effort can mean a lot to someone else. After a day of volunteering, I felt really useful, and I had a great time with everyone there. Four hours well spent. The concert afterwards was a real surprise—particularly with Macklemore, it felt like a celebration of humanity, connection and freedom. Even though work keeps me busy, I’d love to do this again, and I’d recommend it to anyone looking for a meaningful and fun experience.
