Music, Volunteering, and Purpose: Maxime’s RockCorps Journey

aling7

Name: Maxime

Age: 22

Occupation: Law Graduate from ES Sorbonne; currently attending Prépa ATS, a two-year preparatory course for a Master's program

Tell us a bit about your background and how you got involved:

I'm 22 years old and recently completed my law degree at ES Sorbonne. Right now, I’m attending Prépa ATS, which is a two-year preparatory course for a Master’s program. Outside of my studies, I’m really into dancing, reading, and watching series. I started volunteering in high school, helping primary school students with their homework. For the past three years, I’ve been involved with Secours Populaire Français, where I’ve helped collect donations, food, and hygiene products, organized and distributed books, and worked at a soup kitchen for those in need.

How did you find the experience of volunteering?

I found out about RockCorps through an ad on Instagram, and I was mainly motivated by the concert to participate. The atmosphere was great, and I met some really nice people. The coordinators were young, which made for a great atmosphere compared to my usual volunteering experiences, where the environment can sometimes feel rigid and bureaucratic. What really drives me is helping people and reducing inequalities. I believe that if we give of ourselves, we can receive a lot in return.

And what about the concert?

The concert was what initially motivated me to get involved, even though I already volunteer regularly. I loved seeing Franglish, with his incredible dancers, and Macklemore, whose energy was amazing. Overall, the atmosphere at the venue was just incredible

What do you think about brands like ibis getting involved with community activities?

I was already familiar with ibis from advertisements and knew it as a common hotel chain, though I usually stay in Airbnbs. I wasn’t surprise to see ibis involved in music events since people often look for hotels when attending concerts away from home. I think it’s always a good idea for brands to partner with organizations that focus on volunteering, though I’m aware that it’s often more about attracting new clients than pure benevolence. Still, it does give me a new perspective on the brand.

Do you see yourself volunteering more in the future? What was the lasting impression?

Absolutely. I participated in this project with friends I’ve known for three years, and the whole experience had a great atmosphere. I took some photos that really capture the joy I felt both at the concert and during the volunteering project. Discovering the pit area at the concert was a great surprise, and the good vibes throughout have definitely made me want to do it again. I’m already planning to participate next year and would absolutely recommend this experience to others. There’s something incredibly satisfying about being part of a project with such positive energy.
